![]() ![]() You can set auto login in System Preferences/Users & Groups. ![]() #Xstand mantis mac#You can schedule shutdown and startup on a Mac in System Preferences/Energy Saver/Schedule. ![]() I know I'm late on this post, but why does everything have to be a third party solution? The things you want to do are built in on OS X. A Mac Mini will draw very little power while asleep: So, I'm stuck with the power outage every night.Ouch. There is no possibility to draw any new lines what so ever due to the buildings historical value. We are talking about a museum building from the late 1900th century. They can't afford * one* new line for power ? Seriously ? Compared to the cost of several extremely high-powered (rated) UPSes to keep the computers ready to start from sleep overnight (which is probably what you'll need). So I don't have the choice to use sleep-mode on the computers, they have to be turned of preferably before the power circuit is turned off. That might not even be a good idea in terms of impact on power for those computers. And the spotlights are turned off during nights. Unfortunately the computers are on the same power circuit as the spotlights in the exhibition. Sleep functionality is certainly one place where Apple software+hardware puts others to shame: I have never, ever - not once in the last 10+ years - had an Apple unit fail to wake from sleep and operate with 100% normalcy, except where the unit was already experiencing some level of hardware failure or disk data corruption (due to underlying hardware failure). Be advised: the amount of power draw for a unit put to sleep vs shut down but still PLUGGED IN is so negligible as to be an utterly pointless distraction. The "need" to shut down the units is utterly non-existent, and based on some extremely outdated thinking with regards to current technology & power management. Otherwise, absent the method given by epoch70, you will have *no* way to power on the units remotely. ![]() Indeed, put the units to sleep instead of shutting them off, and then you can wake them remotely if needed a a time other than your scheduled wake-time. On boot the system is set with automatic login to a user account with no administrative rights to alter the system settings. I would be glad if the script could run automatically when booted.
